We have helped a local store owner by relocating a possum from his store. The possum was gaining entry from four possible places into the store. We trapped the possum in a possum cage and safely relocated it in a nearby garden after repairing and sealing (possum proofing) the entry points.
Possum are creatures of habit and it would have continued going back into the store for food and was urinating and leaving its dropping around the store which is unhealthy for the staff and patrons.
Do you need a possum removed?
Possums are a protected species and as they are territorial once they are captured they need to be released within 25 meters of their point of capture. All possum capture and releases are monitored by the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection.
It does not take a possum long to make a home inside your roof and they will return night after night. They are noisy and cause a disturbance and will leave droppings and will urinate inside your roof void. It is best for us to trap the possum and relocate it out of your roof.
By law we need to release it within 25 meters from where we have captured the possum. Prior to releasing the possum we block up the hole it has been using to climb into your roof and once the possum realises it cannot get back into your roof it will make itself another home; in some cases we help the possum with a new home by placing a wooden box in a nearby tree to encourage it to settle quicker.
